Framing & Care
Keep these instructions with the artwork and provide them to any future framer.
ALL ORIGINAL ARTWORK
Drawn by DJ originals have not been sprayed with fixative. Do not apply fixative; it may alter the color, value, texture, and overall appearance of the artwork.
For long-term preservation, original artwork should never be in direct contact with glass or acrylic glazing. Regardless of the medium, use a mat or spacer to maintain separation between the artwork and the glazing.
UV-protective glass or acrylic is recommended. Sunlight and other ultraviolet light can alter colors and cause fading. Even with UV-protective glazing, do not display artwork in prolonged direct sunlight. Protect it from excessive heat, moisture, and humidity. Do not use standard acrylic glazing on soft pastel; see the Soft Pastel section below.
Use archival-quality framing materials. Do not dry mount the artwork or permanently adhere it to any backing board or mounting surface.
Do not touch, rub, brush, wipe, or blow on the artwork's surface. Handle only by the edges and only when necessary.
SOFT PASTEL
Glass is recommended for soft pastel. Do not use standard acrylic or Plexiglas glazing, because static electricity can attract loose pastel pigment. If acrylic is necessary, use conservation-grade anti-static acrylic specifically rated for friable media such as pastel.
When matting pastel, use spacers to create a narrow gap between the artwork and the mat. This recessed area allows most naturally released pastel dust to fall behind the mat rather than collect visibly on its face. This method can significantly reduce visible dust, but it cannot guarantee that the mat will remain completely free of pigment.
ARTWORK ON DRAFTING FILM
This artwork is designed to be displayed with the following color behind the drafting film:
Drafting film is translucent; changing the backing color may noticeably alter the artwork's appearance and tonal qualities. Fully support the film, but secure it only along the top edge so it can hang naturally and accommodate movement. Archival-quality framing tape may be used along the top edge to hinge the film to the mat or backing. Do not dry mount or adhere the full surface of the drafting film.
